Questions
Do I need to install anything?
No. Open the site in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. You can also install it as an app from your browser's menu, and it will work offline after your first visit.
Can I use my MIDI keyboard?
Yes — plug it in and use Chrome or Edge (they support Web MIDI). Velocity, sustain pedal, pitch bend and mod wheel all work, and you can map knobs and pads to actions.
Is the AI co-writer free?
The co-writer runs on Anthropic's Claude. Right now you connect your own Anthropic API key, so usage is billed by Anthropic directly. Everything else in the Songwriter tab works without it.
Who owns the music I make?
You do. HummingKeys doesn't claim any rights to your songs, recordings or exports.
Where are my songs saved?
In your browser on your device. Use File → Save project to keep a copy or move it to another computer.
Is it good for teaching?
Yes — students see their playing as sheet music instantly, chord names appear as they play, and nothing needs installing on school computers.
