Privacy

The short version: HummingKeys runs on your own device. We don't have accounts, we don't use tracking cookies, we don't show ads, and we never receive your songs, recordings or reference tracks.
What stays on your device
- Your songs, settings, tracks and lyrics are stored in your browser's local storage.
- Microphone recordings are stored in your browser's IndexedDB. They are never uploaded.
- Inspiration tracks you drop into the Songwriter are analysed entirely on your device and are not stored or uploaded.
- Project files you save (File → Save project) go wherever you choose to save them.
Clearing your browser's site data for HummingKeys deletes all of this, so save projects you care about.
Services HummingKeys connects to
| Service | Why | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Our web host (Cloudflare) | Delivers the website | Standard web request data such as IP address and browser type, kept briefly for security and reliability. |
| jsDelivr CDN | Delivers open-source libraries (sheet music engine, MP3 encoder, AI SDK) | Standard web request data. |
| midi-js-soundfonts (GitHub Pages) or our sample server | Delivers instrument samples | Standard web request data. |
| Cloudflare Web Analytics | Counts visits so we know if the site is useful | Cookie-free, aggregated page-view data. No personal profile is built. |
| Anthropic (only if you use the AI co-writer) | Powers the co-writer | Your messages plus a summary of your song (brief, chords, lyrics, note lists and the numbers from reference analysis — never audio files), sent with your API key. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to that data. |
| Ko-fi / payment provider (only if you tip or subscribe) | Processes your support | What you give them at checkout. We receive your name/email and amount from them, never your card details. |
Your API key
If you add an Anthropic API key, it is stored only in your browser's local storage on this device and is sent only to Anthropic's API. We never receive it.
Microphone and MIDI
HummingKeys asks for microphone or MIDI access only when you turn those features on. You can revoke access any time in your browser's site settings.
Children
HummingKeys itself collects no personal information, so it can be used in classrooms. The optional AI co-writer is subject to Anthropic's usage policies and age requirements; teachers should decide whether to enable it.
